Book part:
Immersion und Projektion

Author(s): Bauer, Matthias

Abstract

Immersion is held to be an effect caused by the demarcation of picture and perspective. But the main point seems to be that a third space emerges from this demarcation. Where the projection of the apparatus and the projection of the spectator’s imagination overlap, the differences between exterior and interior position, of conscience and environment, of ego and alter start to shift towards a field of empathic involvement. Part of this involvement is the dream-like impression of being caught up in the scenography of a movie, which at the same time seems to be a very special kind of intensified embodiment.
